The moment Vice President Kamala Harris took her oath of office meant the world to Semaj Hollins, a Senior at St. Katharine Drexel Prep.
The moment was historic for all young women of color.
Harris made history as the first Black Indian American to be sworn in as vice president.
"It's a phenomenal moment for people of color, especially girls that look just like us and come from communities just like us," said Hollins.
Hollins said it was refreshing to have a vice president who looked like her and was someone she could relate to.
Drexel Prep is a historically Black high school in New Orleans.
The vice president received her degree from a historically Black college and university.
"For her to step over those boundaries is really just showing people like me, leaders who are like me, that nothing should be able to stop us and we can be able to do whatever we want to do," said Hollins.
Hollins along with a few of her classmates like freshman Diva Dollis said watching the moment inspired them and motivated them to believe they could accomplish anything.
"Even if a bunch of people tell you no, you can't do this because of how you look, or how you are, you can actually do it if you have the right mindset," said Dollis.
"I could be just like her one day. I could be a president one day and I could be a vice president one day just like her and step over those boundaries just like she did," said Hollins.
