Although the SKDP Track did not capture the Indoor State title, the team still have a lot to be thankful for. During the Indoor State Championship, junior Cydni “Tigress” Samuel captured the 2nd place long jump championship. This was Tigress’ first year competing in the long jump. In addition, the 4x400 relay team placed 1st. Relay runners included Samuel, junior Silk Banks, freshmen Tamara “Muffin” Guy, and junior Sanaa “Eclipse” Morris. The indoor season also marked the emergence of Freshman Pebbles Johnson. Pebbles competed in the 60 meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. Johnson scored valuable points in each event during the State Meet. One of the most astounding aspects of the indoor season was the display of talents by Alia Jonae Armstrong. Alia competed on the 4x200 meter relay, 60 meter hurdles, 55 meter hurdles, 60 meter dash, 55 meter dash, as well as a valuable member of the 4x400 meter relay. For several weeks during the indoor season, Alia’s athletic prowess garnered her attention as the number 2 ranked 60 meter hurdler in the United States. The SKDP track and field team is looking forward to having a successful outdoor season.
